An interview with myself (lol):
sonicrampage.org/blog/2021/10/pearsall-squat-rocking-ep-plus-my-self-interview/
I started out as a dj in 1997, having gotten into electronic music two years earlier, meaning that this EP is 25 years in the making. I've always loved music, it's been a key part of my life, and so I'm super excited to finally have made an EP to share with the world.
I've made so many mixes and played so many parties since first switching on the decks that I wanted to mark 25 years in the game with an EP that paid homage to the kind of rave madness that first inspired me as a teenager and that continues to excite me today, especially the incredible parties I experienced first hand as a raver on London's squat party scene in the late 90's.
I also wanted to touch on the many different styles of electronic music that I have enjoyed over the years, from hard trance to acid techno to drum n' bass to grime to house to old skool hardcore and beyond. If you've ever heard any of my mixes you know how varied my record collection is! The goal of this EP is to express my love for electronic music in its many forms ... by also satisfying the need of the ravers to have something to dance to.
Conceptually the EP is inspired by Slipmatt's famous SMD series from the early 90's, where tons of famous rave samples were thrown into a blender - I've taken that approach and applied the logic to the sounds of the old skool squat party scene, putting together acid techno, hard techno, and acid trance tracks that are fueled by over 50 samples from my (ample!) record collection, with elements taken not just from techno and trance tracks, but also drum n' bass, gabba, old skool hardcore, grime, electro, house, hip-hop, and more!
I hope you enjoy it!
